Things One Should Know About Home Ventilation

Ventilation has to do with the introduction and circulation of fresh air (outside air)  into a confined space e.g a room, office, industrial facility, hospital etc. to improve breathing and comfort and also prevent heat-related illnesses. The volume of air introduced by a ventilator is measured in
m³/hr

Air ventilators for homes could be air conditioners or ventilation fans. Air conditioners are the best air ventilators for homes because they not only ventilate a home, they also remove stale odour, provide the required humidity level and maintain a constant temperature. But they are more expensive in terms of purchase cost, installation and maintenance.

Fans are an alternative in terms of the job description, cost of installation and maintenance. Fans are devices used to generate or develop a flow of air in a particular area. Fans are made with blades (these blades can be plastic, metal or wood) which are responsible for the movement of the air around them. There are AC-powered and DC-powered fans. Fans are widely used in residential buildings, hotels, restaurants, churches, warehouses, factories, offices, and many others because of their essentiality in air ventilation and circulation. In the modern world today, we have different types of fans for different purposes which are as follows;

- Ceiling Fans

This type of fan is commonly used and seen in homes, churches and small offices. This is a type of fan that is always mounted in the centre of the ceiling of a room to circulate air all around a room. They're always mechanical fans which are usually powered electrically. Ceiling fans always comprise three or four same-sized fan blades, which are spaced and mounted on the cover of the ceiling fan's winding core. Since 1982 when Philip Diehl. invented an electricity-powered ceiling fan, there have been a lot of improvements over the years in the areas of power consumption, efficiency and longevity.

- Wall Mounted Fans

This is another type of fan that is always designed to be mounted on the wall. They are usually seen in offices, rooms, and mostly in tight corners. They are best suited for party halls, auditoriums, warehouses, rooms, and offices due to that they fit very well and can circulate air better from the wall. Wall-mounted fans are usually made of plastic, wooden or metal with three or four blades which can circulate air by moving in a sideways direction at a time whereas ceiling fans circulate air by pushing or pulling of air which creates a blowy effect..

- Pedestal Fans

They are popularly known as a stand or standing fans because they can stand alone on the floor and they have great heights. They are also known for their efficient cooling ability and their ability to control air while standing in one place. They are easy to install and operate because after its being coupled, the user will only have to plug them into a socket and boom!!, it starts to blow out a cool air around it to make a particular place to be better. A great advantage that it has over ceiling fans and wall-mounted fans is that it can be easily moved around from one place to another.

-Industrial Fans

This is another type of fan also known as heavy-duty fans which are made with strong metal blades. They are made to push a large amount of flow of air for ventilation, combustion, cooling, drying,  heavy-duty machines and also for big events in industries, cyber cafes, computer networking control rooms, churches, event halls, and many others. Industrial fans are of two types namely; centrifugal and axial industrial fans.

-Floor Fans

Floor fans are another type of modern fan that is built for cooling the environment when in operation. They are meant to blow a large amount of air. It is called a floor fan because it is meant to do its work while being on the floor. They are usually made of strong metal blades or of a high-quality plastic which functions while at a fixed position and also when rotation. It's usually seen in homes or some outdoor spaces like balconies and terraces and in the rooms of heavy-duty machines for the sole purpose of blowing out a large amount of air so that these machines can function properly. Other types of fans include exhaust fan, misting fans and many others.

For home ventilation systems, air conditioner systems are highly recommended. But because of cost, Ventilation fans can be used instead. Kitchens, bathrooms and toilets would normally need an exhaust fan to combat odour. Home ventilation systems e.g. fans and air conditioning systems must be installed by a certified installer and must also comply with the codes of electrical and HVAC systems.
